How A/R recovery engagements actually work.
Every engagement starts with a real conversation about your portfolio. No automated triage, no template responses.
Most overdue invoices do get paid. Atradius' 2026 survey of US businesses found late payments affect about 22% of B2B receivables, and most of those settle within a month of the due date. Recovery is for the balances that don't: the customer has gone quiet, disputes the work, changed owners, or keeps promising a check that never shows up.
Those accounts need more than another reminder. We start with the paper trail: the signed agreement, agreed pricing, proof the work was done, and what has been tried so far. A dispute that sounds serious often falls apart once the work is laid out job by job against the contract.
Then we pick the path that fits the account. Earlier-stage balances go to flat-fee pre-collection. Accounts that need firmer pressure go to contingency recovery. When lien or bond rights are in play, we coordinate with your attorney's timeline, because we are not a law firm. And when a group of accounts is worth more sold than chased, we'll tell you that and walk you through a portfolio sale.
Waiting costs money. The longer a balance sits, the harder it is to recover: contacts leave, records get thin, and the debtor pays its other creditors first. If an account has stalled, send it while there is still something to work with.
When A/R recovery is the right call.
A few signals that suggest this engagement model fits. If most of these are true, we should talk.
- 01
Balances are 90+ days past due and internal follow-up has stopped working
- 02
The customer is disputing pricing, scope, or work that was already approved
- 03
Ownership changed and the new owners say the balance isn't theirs
- 04
You are close to writing an account off and want a second read first
From stuck to cash in four moves.
Diagnose
We review your aging, account documentation, and prior efforts to identify where recoverability is genuinely at risk.
Stabilize
Structured outreach replaces stalled internal follow-up. Accounts start moving again under disciplined cadence.
Resolve
Negotiated settlements, payment plans, or escalation paths, chosen to protect customer relationships where possible.
Report
Transparent updates on what recovered, what is still in motion, and what we recommend doing differently next time.
Common questions about A/R recovery.
Pulled straight from the conversations we have with finance leaders most weeks. If your question isn't here, reach out and we'll answer it directly.
Accounts receivable recovery services collect commercial balances that internal follow-up could not. A recovery firm reviews the account and its documentation, then works it through structured outreach, negotiation, settlement, or a payment plan. We recover accounts owed by other businesses, not consumer debt.
A/R collection services work your overdue invoices on an ongoing basis, often while the customer relationship is still active. A/R recovery is for balances that have already stalled: aged, disputed, or headed for a write-off. Many clients use both, with recovery taking the accounts that routine collection could not move.
Recovery work is contingency-based. Our fee is a percentage of what we actually collect, and there is no upfront fee to place an account. Earlier-stage work can be a flat fee instead. Pricing depends on the age, size, and volume of the accounts involved.
There is no hard cutoff, but recovery gets harder every month an account sits. We have recovered an energy services balance that was two years past due, paid in full, because the records still showed what was owed. Very old accounts can also be candidates for a portfolio sale. Past results do not guarantee future results on any account.
Most disputes come down to documentation. We tie the balance back to the signed agreement, agreed pricing, and proof of completed work. On a contractor account of about $70,000, a job-by-job breakdown showed the disputes were cover for cash flow problems, and it settled out of court for $50,000. Past results do not guarantee future results on any account.
We are not a law firm. When lien rights, bond claims, or a lawsuit are on the table, we coordinate collection activity with your attorney's timeline so deadlines are not missed. Those legal rights have strict deadlines that vary by state, so bring your attorney in early.
Not when it is handled with judgment. Many stalled accounts are with customers you would still sell to on the right terms. Our outreach stays professional and factual, and we'll recommend firmer steps only when the account calls for them.
Send the account details and a specialist replies within one business day with what looks recoverable. If a balance is not worth pursuing, we'll tell you that too.
